Prototype 1: Perception of time
Hypothesis: The ability for us to always know the time affects our behaviour and perception of it
Julius (23)
Test: He could only be notified of the time every two hours.
Duration: 1 day
Reflections:
He used his phone less, mainly because it was taped up
He felt difficulty when he had to leave because he was not sure
Ended up going for lunch late
He doesn’t usually check the time that often
He often loses track of time by going from one distraction to the next
He has a better sense of time when his brain is working on something
Rina
Test: She could only be notified of the time every hour
Duration: Waking up to lunch
Reflections:
It was hard to not check the phone in the first hour because I needed to know how much time I had left to do something
Felt more relaxed during breakfast
Used the phone less because she did not want to cheat
Didn’t feel the pressure of time
Prompted her to take a different route which was a nice experience
At some point there was no need to know time
Time creates an expectation and therefore anticipation
Spent time observing more
‘Time felt longer when I didn’t check
Alwyn (64)
Reflections:
Started off on a blunder...When G.Ma asked me the time early morning at 6 am...But after that I did manage and began to distract myself by random thoughts..started reading and listening to music, then felt unanchored , aimless, floating in space kinda feeling..
Day seemed too long drawn.
Realised that we are somehow enslaved to time and live our lives divided in segments!!
