Final Project - 2018

This is a log of steps in my final project at Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design from Sep–Dec 2018

Concept: Summary

On slowness

I have taken sometime to identify what it is about slowness that matters.

  • It can build patience

  • It can sharpen our senses through prolonged engagement

  • It can give us a feeling of more control which is informed by the sensing

  • It makes our actions more deliberate

  • It can help us be more correct, or at least prevent more mistakes

I am also thinking about how the future and how it doesn’t have to be fast, it can be slow - the future is slow. ‘Move fast and break things’ has been the slogan for the recent innovation scene- but breaking things can have effects. If you’re FB, it can have large-scale effects. To the extent that may make you question if it was even a good philosophy to begin with. Slow is not necessarily more productive, but it can feel more nourishing.

Concept

I am designing an experience that rewards slowness.

Activities that are rewarded by slowness:

  • Learning a new language

  • Improving health

  • Investment

  • Realistic drawing

  • Threading a needle

  • Waiting for food to cook
