Interview: Physical data visualisation with Annelie
I spoke to Annelie about my interest in tangible visualisations. Some of my key questions were:
How can tangible visualisation fit into an interaction design project?
People-centred research: As an interaction designer, I am equipped with tools for conducting research which allows me to extract revealing pieces of information which can be drawn into insights and opportunity areas. What I visualise and identifying the point of intervention where the tool of visualisation can have a meaningful should be informed by the people who will experience it. Defining an area of interest and an audience which is also a part of research is important.
Interactive data collection tools: The process of gathering data can use methods that are beyond surveys or pure statistical observation. We can use techniques of physical computing to quickly make data gathering devices.
Experience prototyping: Don't think of the visualisation as a stand-alone artefact but as an experience with a beginning, middle and end. How are they introduced to the topic? What do you want people to do when they enter? What feedback to they receive? What are they left with - feelings, thoughts, information?
Ripe topics:
Algorithms - visualising for not just consumers but creators
Climate change: How are we adapting and evolving?
