Final Project - 2018

This is a log of steps in my final project at Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design from Sep–Dec 2018

Prototype 3: Perception of time

I wanted to know if the ability for people to always know the hour of the day affects their behaviour and perception of it

To test this I asked people to try and live 24-hours without hours and see what they felt. I framed a scenario similar to the previous one.

I’ve been looking at my phone less and at most times don’t know what time it is. It also could be cause I’m extremely busy at work and I’m not too connected with my phone anyway

It's weird. Getting used to not looking at the time on my phone. Searching for a clock or somewhere else to look at the timeIt's peaceful tho not knowing the hours

It's a bit difficult to guess the time. So this is how I do it.

I kept one number as a reference (example 12 mins) and wait for this number to appear again so I know that it's been an hour.

Feels a bit irritating because there is sense of actual time.

I keep looking at the watch every 5 to 10 mins or may be less than that.

few things at 4.13a.m. while I blocked time on my phone - I have other sources that inform me about the time, like the inevitable hand watch. Also I have a big giant clock(analog) right outside my window. Why I was spending that moment staring onto the analogue clock, at the same time it was a relaxing moment to see time moving.

So, I decided to cover time on phone and be in the kitchen. For two reasons - I don’t have any time indications, exactly opposite like my room where there is giant clock and many watches. And I entered kitchen around 7.44, reached out to my phone 5 times to check time :disappointed:

and i came out of the kitchen at 8.35. Felt - oh wow, i spent 45 minutes to make khuskhus where there is no cooking time, it was all boiling, mixing and cutting

So, few observations this morning when I was cycling - I needed to know when i will reach school. I made calculation through my podcast timings I knew the podcast, I had stopped earlier day was at some 19.40 secs and started from there again and checked on my screen how many minutes I heard to know if I was running late to CIID

I think in the morning every minute counts. But in the night hour matters. For ex - in the morning you are running late by few minutes but you are still late. In night it is all about when should i hit the bed, how many hours of sleep I will get. Obviously subjected to me.
